Depth of Mondrian's Composition 2 ✏️🎨
October 23, 2024
Project Concept
For this project, I tried to create my art work based on existing code. I deconstructed the original coding structure and added something new. This project is meaningful to me because it's the first time I've thought about 3D shapes in terms of numbers and code. I have always used 3D modeling software to assist me in creating and thinking in three dimensions. This remixing project helped me understand why these 3D modeling software tools are important and how they visualize the 3D creation process by employing logic similar to 3D physical sculpting or building, making the lives of 3D artists and designers easier.
For the creating process, in the beginning, I followed the basic structure and creation logic, the original project established, by adding a new function and editing some numbers. However, I found that the original settings were not suitable for my project because I attempted to add "real" depth to the 3D object. Therefore, I had to reconsider the rendering logic. Throughout the entire remixing process, I learned that merely editing and adding some numbers in the code often results in work that remains similar to the original. Therefore, it is essential to deconstruct the structural thinking of others to forge our own unique creations.

The idea of this interactive art work is from 15-years-old Shirley's thought when she first saw Mondrian's Composition 2: Does this 2D painting have depth? What if it is a 3D art piece, What does it look like? Therefore, I create the 3D version of this art work in my imagination.
